Licensed Embalmer

Summary: This position is responsible for the preparation, care, and presentation of loved ones in accordance with company standards and state regulations. The role ensures accurate documentation, compliance with safety procedures, and provides respectful service to families during a sensitive time.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and update the first call/embalming list created by FOC.
  • Take and maintain fingerprints in the electronic vault.
  • Enter and maintain Care Center data/photos in Passare accurately and timely.
  • Follow security procedures for loved one’s personal property and identification policies.
  • Perform bathing, hair washing, feature setting, nail cleaning, and disinfecting of loved ones.
  • Embalm, aspirate, trim nose/ear hairs, and shape fingernails when authorized.
  • Dress loved ones and apply cosmetics as needed; perform basic hair styling.
  • Place loved ones in their casket using proper lifting techniques.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety in the garage and Care Center laundry areas.
  • Follow universal precautions, OSHA standards, and all safety regulations.
  • Attend training sessions and staff meetings.
  • Maintain an active Indiana Funeral Director license.
  • Cooperate in supervising employees per organizational policies and applicable laws.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong oral communication skills for assisting families respectfully.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write reports and correspondence.
  • Basic math skills for calculations.
  • Problem-solving skills to enhance family services.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with general religious customs.

 Required Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s Degree in Funeral Science (minimum).
  • Current Indiana Funeral Director License in good standing.
  • 2–4 years of industry experience or equivalent training.

Work Environment:

  • Regular walking, talking, sitting, and standing for extended periods.
  • Frequent lifting/moving up to 50 lbs; occasional lifting/moving up to 200+ lbs.
  • Close vision required.
  • Occasional exposure to mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and chemicals.
  • Moderate noise level.
